Analyzing the making process of the artwork has always played a major role in the evolution of my work. Documented and recorded, it almost becomes a work in itself. It allows to capture, not only, the process but also the context surrounding this specific moment and place where ideas birth and are materialized. Staging the work rises the question of how contextualizing the latter directly influences the way we read and value the artwork. Doing so, came a strong interest for the mechanics of exhibitions.
"Mapping the Gallery" understands the exhibition space as not even being part of the artwork anymore but being the latter itself. The first stage of this project explores galleries' fronts as frames where the space itself would become the contained work. Because of their window glasses, galleries' fronts photographic elements reveal a reflection and see-through aspect. Once they are framed, the glass disturbs the viewer's perception adding another layer of reflected images. The eye is lost in a "mise en abîme" of spaces reflecting each other, trying to understand where is the delimitation between the inside and outside. Galleries and art fairs floor maps drawings are a metaphorical way to transpose a three dimensional exhibition space in a two dimensional one, which therefore can't play the role of a container anymore...
Unfolding the creative journey and exhibition mechanics is an attempt to understand where lie the artwork's meaning and value in the contemporary art world and in its market.
